Harapkan pagar, pagar makan padi-Klang Municipal Council Enforcement Division
Give a big man authority and he will feel the weight of it. He will carefully meander his way through all the obstacles and challenges in his path.
Give a small man authority,he is more likely not to know the balance between doing the job and over-stepping authority.
I now refer to the case of Pua Chia Teng who was dragged out of his shop, bundled into a car and taken to the Klang Police Headquarters. Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Khir Toyo who was shown a video clip of the incident wants stern action to be taken against the officers.
Rightly so. As the Mentri Besar he has the duty to let the humble rakyat know that there are laws in the country. If he had stuck up for the officers involved I would have been terribly disappointed in him.He might have done that on the mistaken notion of protecting his underlings.
Councillor Datuk Teh Kim Poo said that this particular unit has been the subject of several complaints from the public and are perceived to be high-handed and rough when enforcing the law.
It is a nine-man unit but investigations will be concentrated on the leader.I do not object against the logic. His underlings had no choice but to follow through on his directives. To do otherwise, would have hurt their own careers. At the same time,it does not totally absolve them of the blame.
I suggest the whole unit be disbanded. We do not need gangsters telling the people to live within the laws.To send them for further training is meaningless. At the back of their minds they have been brainwashed by their leader.
The best bet is to ground them or send them to other divisions within the council where there will be little interaction with the public. As for the leader himself, assault and abduction on a citizen of the country should not be taken lightly.
