Teresa Kok as possible new Selangor Deputy Menteri Besar
When I read that DAP had picked Teresa Kok as S’gor deputy MB, I felt so proud. I felt for once women are being appreciated and not being down-trodden as in the past where BN party members routinely make snide remarks that belittle women.
Since the 12th general election on march 8th, I feel a renewed joy in being a Malaysian. No longer this overwhelming air of despair and total helplessness. It is a new dawn indeed of hope for all Malaysians.
There can only be one way for the country in the future that is up, up and up.
It was reported that the party’s organising secretary Tan Kok Wai said that the party’s central committee agreed with Kok’s candidacy at a meeting held in Penang . She was favored over DAP Selangor chief Ean Yong Hian Wah and three-term state assemblyperson Teng Chang Khim for the post. The party’s decision making body agreed that Kok, who is also the Seputeh member of Parliament, would be the most appropriate candidate for the post.
Tan said that the party agreed on Kok’s candidacy to promote women’s participation in politics.
Tan said that there were many women DAP candidates who won in the recent general election and Kok’s appointment as the deputy Selangor menteri besar would encourage even more women to be involved. Kok had just made her debut into Selangor this time by winning the Kinrara state seat.
